Mary Kay Giovanetti, LPCC, RN
Hi, I’m Mary Kay Giovanetti—Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Registered Nurse, mother of three, wife of over 40 years, and founder of Inner Strength Counseling.
I started my mental health journey as an outpatient therapist at Sun Behavioral Health in Kentucky in 2020. For several years, I divided my time between the hospital and my private office, working with adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and emotional distress. In 2025, I opened my own practice, first as Mary Kay Counseling Services, and later renamed to reflect what I believe lies at the core of the healing process: Inner Strength.
Before becoming a counselor, I spent years raising my three sons, maintaining my nursing license, and later returning to school to pursue my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My nursing background gives me a unique lens on care and wellness, but it’s my own life experience—personal hardships, spinal surgeries, moments of transformation—that has truly shaped who I am as a therapist.
I’ve always been drawn to people. Even as a child, I found myself trying to understand what made others behave the way they do. I love deep conversations and listening to people’s stories. After receiving life-changing counseling during a particularly difficult period in my own life, I knew I wanted to give back in the same way.
Today, I specialize in helping adults navigate emotional pain, build healthy coping strategies, and adapt to life’s ever-changing landscape. I use CBT, DBT, and EMDR, but more importantly, I use compassion, honesty, and acceptance. I want every client to feel seen, heard, and safe in our work together.
I continue to hold my nursing license and consult with professionals when appropriate. I also refer clients to support groups, medical providers, or specialists as needed, because good care is holistic, and sometimes we need a team.
Outside the office, I’m passionate about the arts, music, theater, traveling, health, fitness, and reading. I believe my greatest success isn’t just a degree, a license, or a professional title—it’s the personal growth I’ve achieved by living authentically, learning from my mistakes, and practicing self-compassion. That’s the same journey I invite my clients to explore.
If you're struggling, I want you to know that healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to support you every step of the way.
